The All Odisha Auto Chalaka Mahasangha has launched a mobile application for passengers to book auto-rickshaws. “Passengers can download the Smart Auto app from the Google Play Store to avail the service. The auto-rickshaw drivers, who have received training from Commissionerate Police, will be registered with the app,” said general secretary, Padman Kumar Samal, on behalf of the association. For the time being the service is limited to the capital city.
The Bhubaneswar police Commissionerate, along with officials from RTO, has trained 3000 auto drivers out of the 30000 present in the city. This app will come as a relief for passengers as auto drivers will not be able to overcharge them.
Along with this, all the auto drivers between the age of 18 and 40, will receive pension cards that will entitle them to a monthly pension of Rs 3000 after they reach the age of 60. According to Samal, they will also be receiving insurance. Under this, in case a driver dies in a road accident, his family will receive Rs 10 lakh compensation. They will also be provided with a mediclaim policy with a cover of up to Rs 3 lakh.
