Revised Incentives For Local Athletes Announced By CM
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced a revised monthly allowance scheme for sportspersons and athletes of state-run sports hostels.
The monthly allowance of female athletes across all sports hostels is enhanced to Rs 500 while for male athletes, it has been enhanced to Rs 300 per month, said a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). These revised incentives were declared after the Chief Minister’s detailed interactions with sports hostel students – a move that aims to fulfil the daily needs and create opportunities for excellence in sports.
According to the statement, athletes will also be provided with an allowance of Rs 300 per day for participation in recognised sports competition organised outside the state by national sports federation or similar level.
Any sportsperson securing a gold medal at a national level competition will get an additional monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 for one year while an amount of Rs 500 and Rs 300 will be awarded to silver and bronze medal winners respectively.
The statement also said that if any athlete registers a national level record which is not broken for one year, they will get an additional monthly allowance of Rs 5000 for one year.
It has also been reported that a separate scheme will be formulated for coaches with monetary incentives for performance enhancement.
