Odisha FC Register First Win Of The Season
Odisha FC registered its first win of the season as forward Aridane Santana’s brace inspired the team to a 4-2 victory over hosts Mumbai City, who were playing their opening game of ISL 2019-20.
Odisha dominated the game from the start as Xisco Hernandez, Santana and Jerry Mawhmingthanga got their names on the scoresheet.
The away team played in an attacking style and were rewarded with an early goal via Xisco Hernandez, taking a 1-0 lead within the first six minutes of the game. They doubled their lead in the 21st minute and looked in cruise control.
Mumbai had a chance to pull one back in the 32nd minute but Serge Kevyn failed to capitalize as he drove his close-range effort over the bar. And they were punished as Odisha scored the third goal of the game in the 41st minute and went into halftime with a healthy lead.
Five minutes after the break, Mumbai reduced the deficit to make it 1-3 as Mohamed Wael Larbi scored from a spot-kick. But it was game over in the 73rd minute as Santana scored a spectacular header to restore Odisha’s three-goal lead.
In the dying minutes of the game, Mumbai scored a consolation second goal through Bipin Singh but the match ended 4-2 in favour of Odisha FC.
