Junior Girls National Football Championships: Odisha Advances To The Quarter Finals
Himachal Pradesh and Odisha have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Junior Girls National Football Championships 2019-2020, which is being held in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
Odisha rode their way into the quarters with a gallant 13-0 win over Pondicherry, with Jyoti Kumari scoring seven goals. Manisha Naik, another young performer, netted three goals while Subhasmita Das, Malati Munda and Salge Majhi scored a goal each.
Himachal Pradesh, another contender for the top spot this season, beat the hosts Maharashtra by a 4-0 margin. Maharashtra had put up a tough fight and the fortunes could have very well turned if Himachal’s Manisha had not successfully stopped a spot-kick early in the game.
Meanwhile, Gujarat and Bihar drew their match 0-0 in the second game of group E. Bihar now sits with four points from two games and will have to rely on the result of the other matches in the group. On Thursday, the final round in Group H between Kerala and Mizoram will be played, after both secured comfortable victories in their earlier matches.
