Gold Medallist Pramod Bhagat To Get 6 Crore, Government Job

The Odisha Government is set to reward Paralympics gold medallist Pramod Bhagat with a cash prize of Rs 6 crores. Further, he will be offered a Group A government job.

Bhagat, a resident of Bhubaneswar, beat Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in badminton men’s singles SL3 to win a gold medal for the country at the Tokyo Paralympics. Coincidentally, this year was India’s debut in badminton at the Paralympics, which makes Bhagat the first Indian to win a gold medal in the sport.

“This is very special to me, it’s my dream come true. Bethell pushed me but I just kept my calm and played to my strengths. I would like to dedicate this to my parents and to everyone who has supported me throughout. I’m glad I could make India proud,” Bhagat had said after winning the gold medal in Tokyo.

Interestingly, Bhagat had played against Bethell a couple of years ago in Japan and lost. “That was a learning opportunity for me. Today it was the same stadium and the same environment, and I devised a strategy to win. I was very determined”.

Post Bhagat’s felicitation by the Government of India in New Delhi, he addressed the media saying, “I am indebted to the people of Odisha for their love and the chief minister for his constant support to the players and above all the sports. My achievement will certainly kindle a ray of hope among lakhs of differently-abled persons to see dreams and translate them into reality.”

Bhagat further mentioned that after he meets CM Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar, he would go to Puri to offer his prayers at the Lord Jagannath temple.
