Dutee, Jauna Shine At Federal Cup Championship
Dutee Chand, the Asian Games silver medallist and Odisha’s pride, clinched the gold medal at the Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship that was held in Patiala. Dutee had clocked 23.55 seconds for the 200-metre track event, outperforming other competitors.
Meanwhile, Jauna Murmu, another promising sprinter from Odisha, won the bronze medal after securing the third position in the 400-metre category. She completed her 400 metres run in 57.58 seconds.
The year has begun on a sublime note for Dutee, who is now unarguably India’s fastest woman sprinter. Earlier, in February, she had won two gold medals at the Indian Grand Prix Series 2019 that was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Her performance in the Indian Grand Prix series also ensured her qualification in the Asian Athletics Championship.
The four-day long event had commenced on Friday, 15th March. The Athletics Federation of India in a statement had said that it was mandatory for all athletes (except those who have been exempted), to take part in the Federation Cup as a basal requirement to qualify for the Asian Championships.
