Repatriation Flight From Dubai Lands In Bhubaneswar

As per official sources, an Air India flight carrying 151 stranded Odia migrants from Dubai landed in the state capital on Thursday night. Upon landing at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, all passengers underwent a mandatory health screening process.

Passengers hailing from Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, and Jajpur districts would leave by bus from the airport, said an official. Those from faraway districts such as Bargarh, Balasore, and Nayagarh will be accommodated in institutional quarantine centres in Bhubaneswar, he added.

Meanwhile, a second repatriation flight from Dubai is expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar on May 19 and another flight from Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to land on the next day.

“On May 28, a flight from Chicago in the USA is scheduled to land in Delhi. From there, another flight will bring the passengers here,” the official said.

COVID-19 spokesperson Subroto Bagchi said, “Since May 3, as many as 1,00,030 Odias – migrant workers, students, pilgrims, patients, professionals, and others – have reached the state. “A total of 11,487 people have returned to the state on Thursday,” he added.

As more and more migrants return to the state, the number of COVID-19 positive patients keeps on rising. Currently, around 672 people have been infected in the state, out of which 158 have already recovered.
