Odisha To Request Centre For Coronavirus Testing Facilities

In a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19, the Odisha government is set to request the Centre for setting up testing facilities in the state. The government will appeal for testing facilities at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar, and the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, said Health Secretary Nikunja Dhal.

“Our Health Minister will write to the Union Health Minister for setting up testing facilities at the RMRC and the SCB. In Odisha, these two have virus research and diagnostic laboratory,” said Dhal.

Meanwhile, the state government has also issued workplace advisory to prevent the virus and has asked people to avoid hugging, shaking hands while greeting and keep their surroundings clean. Surfaces and objects must be cleaned regularly with alcohol-based disinfectants, it said.

The availability of soaps and sanitising hand rub is a must near washbasins and adequate water supply should be ensured as frequent handwashing prevents the spread of Covid-19, it added.

The state government has also advised employees to self-isolate at home if they develop flu-like symptoms because the virus can spread in the community even with a mild cough and low-grade fever.

School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash said that the likelihood of closure of schools and colleges remains low at this point as no positive cases have been detected in Odisha.
