Odisha Government Releases Draft Agricultural Policy 2019

The Government of Odisha has released a draft state agricultural policy for 2019, targeting the continuation of Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) for the next five years and chalking out other steps for increasing farmers’ income.

“Odisha’s Agricultural Policy 2019 is focused on farmers well being and is formulated to build on inherent strengths of its agriculture and allied sectors, to address the constraints the faces and make optimal use of resources and opportunities emerging on account of advancement in technology, and the emergence of accelerated economic growth in the state and the country”, the policy mentioned.

The policy’s primary objective is to boost the economic and social well being of the farmers, sharecroppers, landless labourers, with a focus to keep the process environment-friendly. The first agricultural policy was launched by the Odisha government in 1996, followed by policies in 2008 and 2013.

The state farmers’ income has increased between 2002-03 and 2015-16, with a jump from Rs. 1062 to Rs 7731, depicting a growth of 16.5 percent in absolute and 8.5 percent in actual terms.
