Odisha Announces Free COVID-19 Vaccines For All Above 18 Years
As expected, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced free COVID-19 vaccines for all people above the age of 18 years. The State Government has allocated a sum of Rs 2000 Crore for the purpose.
Naveen Patnaik announced this in his address and said the vaccines will be available from May 1. “The people of Odisha are my family. The age group of 18-44 are eligible to get vaccinated. You don’t have to pay a single penny to get the vaccine,” he said.
Odisha has close to two crore people in the age bracket of 18-44 years. Meanwhile, the state government has already placed orders for Covishield and Covaxin doses.
The Government announced that an order has been placed for 10.34 lakh Covaxin doses from Bharat Biotech. Odisha will also procure 3.77 crore Covishield doses from the Serum Institute of India.
With this announcement, Odisha joins Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Assam, Sikkim and West Bengal to give free COVID-19 jabs.
