Night Curfew, Weekend Shutdown Imposed in Odisha: Details
The Odisha government has announced a night curfew and weekend shutdown in all urban areas starting today. This decision has been taken after a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases. The timing of the curfew will be from 9 pm to 5 am across all the urban areas. Meanwhile, the night curfew comes into effect starting 6 pm across ten districts in western Odisha.
Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra has mentioned that the curfew will be enforced strictly, sticking to the measures and guidelines to contain the pandemic.
For the smooth operation of various services, the restrictions are enforced for people only and not on the movement of goods. Essential services will not face any disruption due to the curfew.
Stepping up precautions for inter-state travel, the government has enforced a complete shutdown on weekends across all urban areas in the state.
“We had fared comparatively better in the first wave as we had fewer positive cases than other States. However, the country has been recording higher cases than any other country during the past few days. In neighbouring states, especially in Chhattisgarh, cases have been rising rapidly”, said the Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, inter-state bus transportation remains suspended from April 19. Passenger bus movements within the state would be allowed with restrictions. The 100% attendance in government offices has is reduced to 50%.
Private institutions, including banks, have been asked to carry out their operation with reduced manpower.
Notably, the state government also announced the suspension of board exams of Class X and XII.
