Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Unveils BJD’s Social Wing At Padyatra Program

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled his party’s plan to start a social wing to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The wing will focus on tree plantation and environment conservation, blood donation, and health assistance, to accomplish the long term goal of making Odisha clean and green.

BJD has already launched the Jiban Bindu programme, the volunteer blood donation initiative since March 2015, and over three lakh units of blood have so far been collected under the initiative. The Padyatra program is a branch of the people-connect exercise which starts every year on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) and culminates on Jayaprakash Narayan Jayanti (October 11). The padayatra was launched by Patnaik at the Kargil Basti in the city under Ekamra constituency.

“Our padayatra programme is an opportunity to meet people. You should focus on two subjects during the padayatra. Try to understand and resolve the problems of people and secondly spread out the good works of the state government,” said the CM.

This was Patnaik’s first mass-contact programme after the whopping victory in the recent general elections. He took the opportunity to share his thanks to the people. “We got the chance to serve the people of Odisha because of the blessings of people and hard work of our party workers. I am indebted before all,” he said.

The ruling party will organise meetings and rallies across 114 urban local bodies (ULBs) and 6798 gram panchayats to spread the ideologies of the state government as part of the annual exercise.
