Three For Odisha in Indian Women’s Delegation To Korea

Three players from Odisha have been selected in the Indian Women’s Hockey team travelling to Korea, for the upcoming tournament which is scheduled to begin from 20th May.

Hockey India Association announced the names of the chosen squad for the India Women’s Hockey team. Sunita Lakra, Deep Grace Ekka and Lilima Minz from Odisha found a spot each among the 18-member team for the bilateral tournament of three test matches, which will be played at the Jinchun National Athletic Centre, Jinchun, Korea.

Captained by Rani and vice-captained by Goalkeeper Savita, the Indian team will clash against the Korean Women’s Hockey team, under the guidance of Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne. The upcoming tour will help prepare the team for the FIH Women’s Series Finals Hiroshima 2019, which is scheduled to be organised from June 15th to 23rd, in Japan’s Hiroshima.

While experienced goalkeepers Savita and Rajani Etimarpu will be guarding the goalposts in this tour of Korea, Gurjit Kaur will make a return to the team after missing the Malaysia tour due to injury. She will be flanked by Salima Tete, Sunita Lakra, Deep Grace Ekka, Karishma Yadav and Sushila Pukhrambam in defensive positions. Monika, Navjot Kaur, Nikki Pradhan, Neha Goyal and Lilima Minz will take up the midfield positions.

Captain Rani, who also missed the Malaysia Tour due to injury, makes a return to the squad. She will be joined by Vandana Katariya, Lalremsiami, Jyoti and Navneet Kaur in the attack, the release from Hockey India stated.
