These Pubs and Bars Are Shaping Bhubaneswar’s Nightlife
While Covid has left a dent in the revenues of most restaurants in Bhubaneswar, there is one trend that has quietly emerged in the capital city of Odisha. There has been a steady increase in the number of pubs and bars in the city, and as a result, the young crowd’s inclination to stay up and enjoy the nightlife. While this lifestyle is very normal in the metro cities, Bhubaneswar is rapidly catching up.
Whether you want to casually chat over a beer, try out fancy cocktails or kill your Monday blues with rooftop dinner and drinks – Bhubaneswar has it all. Here’s our pick of some of the coolest places to go to for a drink:
1. Top Notch, Patia
Bhubaneswar’s newest and arguably the city’s only proper nightclub, Top Notch, has become the talk of the town. It has attracted the attention of many with its elaborate, gold-crafted interiors and a blingy bar. Located on the rooftop of Zoris Boutique Hotel, the place hosts lively events with high-profile DJs during the weekends. Top Notch takes pride in its Insta-worthy ambience and a huge dance floor that can accommodate a large crowd. All in all, it’s the ideal place to grab a late-night drink and dance your heart out.
P.S – Top Notch is open from 8pm until midnight.
2. UPRE Kitchen & Cafe, Chandrasekharpur
This stylish, upscale cafe reminds you of Santorini due to its charming white and blue decor. UPRE has both; a lively rooftop bar that serves a wide variety of liquor and an indoor section which is equally charming. The overall ambience of the place is unmatched and one must try their Hummus & Pita as well as the Butter Chicken Pizza. The only downside to the place is the steep prices, especially for alcohol.
3. Bottle, Patia
One of Bhubaneswar’s newest pubs, the concept of Bottle is strikingly similar to the national chain Social. They too play with Hindi fonts, serve the Long Island Iced Tea (LIIT) in a similar tallish glass, and have ‘Chakhna/Tiffin’ as one of the munchies on their menu. It’s still early days for Bottle, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for decent finger food along with a couple of drinks.
4. Mad Mule, Kharabela Nagar
The only place in Bhubaneswar that serves craft beer, Mad Mule is worth visiting once if you’re craving for a refreshing beer and are sick of the bottled ones. Apart from the four variants of craft beer, there is very little that impresses. The food is average, the music is unusually loud and the staff doesn’t care much about you if you’re not an acquaintance of some sort. It does attract a large crowd though due to its spacious dance floor and old school Bollywood music.
5. Echoes, Patia
Located near Infocity, Echoes has a lively vibe with plenty of gigs taking place in the weekends and a young crowd that follows it. The bar looks inviting and has all kinds of liquor available, although the choices of beer are pretty limited, like in most places. It houses a decently new pool table as well if you want to kill time.
6. #BBI, Chandrasekharpur
Undoubtedly the pick of the bunch, #BBI has extravagant floor space, stylish interiors and the best finger food in town. They play good music and have different themes on each floor. They also come up with curated menus for various festivals, serve free shots to ladies on Wednesdays, among other offers. This place is totally worth a visit for the complete restobar experience.
7. Tequila Bar & Grill, Patia
The first bar at KIIT Road, Tequila is popular among students due to its proximity to various colleges. The place is well-lit, unlike most other bars in Bhubaneswar, and the staff is extremely friendly. We would definitely recommend trying their selection of Indian starters to go with your drink. We also give them brownie points for having their dance floor in a separate section altogether, thus reducing the noise at the bar area.
8. Moody Blues, Gajapati Nagar
A multi-cuisine family restaurant cum lounge that serves alcohol, Moody Blues is renowned for their Indian main course and a huge dance floor. The interiors are extremely well done which gives it a luxurious look. And for that kind of a setting, Moody Blues is not overpriced. Overall, it’s a decent pick for a nice family dinner.
Another new addition that made its entry in Bhubaneswar’s Esplanade One Mall is The Beer Cafe, India’s largest beer chain and a brand that has created a bar and dining concept based on beer. They’re famous for the huge selection (50 plus varieties) of beer available in their outlets, with a majority of them on tap. Whether they’ll have all of it available in the Bhubaneswar outlet is a question that’ll be answered soon, once they’ve obtained the liquor licence.
