Naveen Patnaik Allots Parliamentary Roles Resigns From Bijepur
Shortly after BJD secured a landslide victory in Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has allocated political offices to its Lok Sabha members.
Puri MP Pinaki Mishra has been announced as the parliamentary party leader and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab is nominated as the Chairman of the standing committee to be allotted to BJD. While Kandhamal MP Dr Achyuta Samanta takes on the mantle as party’s Chief Whip for the Lower House, Kendrapara MP Anubhav Mohanty, who defeated senior BJP leader Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda with a sizeable margin, was chosen as the Deputy Chief Whip.
BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, who contested from Bijepur & Hinjili constituencies in the assembly, for the first time in his political career, has also resigned from the former. Patnaik thanked the people of Bijepur for their love and support as his government rolled out a special package for them. This includes a provision of 34,000 pucca houses, two mega piped water supply schemes, a lift irrigation project worth Rs 48 crores and about 3000 deep borewell irrigation projects.
Stating his reason for contesting from two seats, Patnaik said, “I was overwhelmed by your love during Bijepur by-poll in February 2018. During the 2019 election, I was requested from several quarters to contest from western Odisha. In this context, I had decided to contest from Bijepur. I will always be indebted to your love and affection. I have always fulfilled the promises made to you and would keep on working for it”
Patnaik, who became the chief minister of the state for a record fifth term had defeated his closest rival in Bijepur with a margin of over 57000 votes, while in Hinjili he beat BJP spokesperson and lawyer Pitambar Acharya.
