Incubation Centre to Come up at Maniabandha
Tata Trusts is all set to start operations at the Incubation and Design Centre (IDC) at Maniabandha village in Cuttack district which was inaugurated on March 18. The centre will provide comprehensive training to weavers to set up their enterprise, in an aim to boost the handloom sector. The centre intends to create 50 entrepreneurs within five years.
The Incubation and Design Centre would help polish the technical knowledge of the weavers and help them in marketing their products.
The centre is fully updated according to the current market needs with a computer lab, video-call enabled classroom, study looms, buyer interaction zone and looms for sampling. A six-member team consisting of professionals from varied fields like business management professionals, textile design professionals and weaving trainers would mentor the participants.
“The video-conferencing feature would allow the weavers to get international as well as national level contracts. The weavers can experiment with new fibres and designs and communicate with the industry through multiple channels such as instant messaging and social media” said Sharda Gautam, head of crafts division, Tata Trusts.
The IDC would be the one-stop destination for textile enthusiasts, hand-loom lovers, buyers who would like to interact and know more about the handloom industry. Tata Trusts are also planning to set up more IDCs in the state.
