Hockey World Cup and Odisha
India is a country of sports; one in which games are paramount to a sacred religion for many. For most our history, hockey as a game has brought us much glory and fame (and it still continues to do so), and fans have adored the game as a game of their own. Odisha, being a leader in promotion of sports culture among the youth, has been endowed with the behemoth responsibility to conduct the 2018 Hockey World Cup- and fans can’t be more excited!
Odisha’s domestic hockey team is a potent force to be reckoned with in the national stage. The Odisha Hockey Team has maintained its dominance in field hockey in India, being the most successful team of Hockey India Championships. This year, Odisha is hosting the 14th Men’s Hockey World Cup in Kalinga stadium, Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16, 2018. Hosting the world cup attracts global attention, and the State authorities are in top gear to successfully conduct the championship. Odisha gets a huge exposure and the authorities are utilising it to full potential. The State government has introduced over 300 buses for the three cities, keeping in mind the panaromic influx of crowd due to the world cup. Host city Bhubaneswar, too is not to be left behind- it has got a major facelift prior to the Hockey World Cup- in a bid to market the State’s tourism in addition to promoting the sport culture it is widely known for. The presence of icons like A.R. Rahman, and Bollywood’s own Badshah Shah Rukh Khan, only adds to the overall glamour associated with the event this time around.
The world cup would expose Odisha internationally to a great extent producing an increase in tourism as well as serve as a pitching point to attract investments. The Hockey World Cup is on- are you?
