Road Safety To Be Included In School Curriculum

The Odisha government has decided to include road safety in the curriculum of class 10 students from the academic session 2020-21. Odisha being among the top four states in the country in terms of fatalities due to road accidents, this approach comes as a necessary one.

“The students of class 10 will be imparted education on road safety. It is up to the experts in the education department as to how they incorporate it in the syllabus – in the form of a subject or a special chapter”, said Transport Commissioner, Sanjeeb Panda.

The department of school and mass education has taken the responsibility to curate a syllabus regarding the same and Minister Samir Ranjan Dash has assured that the department is finding ways to incorporate this subject.

The subject will mainly cover traffic signals, administering first aid after accidents, rules to be followed while riding a motorcycle, crossing a road, the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, and road safety laws.
