BJD Not Joining Mahagathbandhan

The Odisha Chief Minister said BJD will continue to remain equidistant from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. During the farmers’ convention in New Delhi on Tuesday, Patnaik had said that the party is yet to decide whether it would join the grand alliance of opposition parties.

With the Lok Sabha elections a few months away, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, after he landed back in Odisha – Wednesday, confirmed that BJD will not be part of the Mahagathbandhan. Also known as Grand Alliance, Mahagathbandhan is a coalition of political parties that started in the Eastern state of Bihar in India, formed before the 2015 legislative elections in Bihar.

“As far as the Mahagathbandhan is concerned, the Biju Janata Dal is not a part of it,”

Patnaik stated

Patnaik also quashed speculations of a Cabinet reshuffle ahead of the elections. “There is no thought on any ministry reshuffle,” he said in reply to reporters’ query.

As the countdown to the Lok Sabha Election begins, BJP has amped up attempts to build its footprint in Odisha and provide stiff competition to BJD. In the 2014 parliamentary elections, BJP had won only one out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats while Patnaik secured a massive victory by claiming 20 seats.
