Bird Flu situation worsens in Puri
The outbreak of bird flu in Krushnaprasad block of Puri, detected three days ago, has now spread to other parts of the district.
The district administration has begun the mass culling of diseased chickens as a measure against the spread of bird flu to other neighbouring districts. Seven teams have been engaged in the operation carried out in a phased manner within one kilometre radius of affected areas at Maluda, Buda Sahi, Sana Sahi, Nua Sahi and Patharghati villages. More than 1000 chickens have been culled and about Rs. 95,000 has been disbursed to the affected farmers, sources say. As a precautionary measure, sale of chicken and eggs has been banned in affected areas and Government schools have been instructed not to provide eggs to children for the next few days.
