Bhubaneswar Smart City Is India’s ‘Best Digital Payment Innovator’
Adding yet another award to its kitty, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has been chosen as the Best Digital Payment Innovator by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoUHA).
In August last year, 72 smart cities entered the Smart Cities Digital Payment Awards 2018 under three categories – Best Digital Payment Adopter, Best Digital Payment Innovator and Fastest Smart City Focusing on Digital Payments. The Ministry declared the winners on February 11, 2019.
As per latest developments, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited has started implementing Common Payment Card System (CPCS) under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode through ICICI Bank. Under this project, more than 300 Points of Sale (POSs) machines will be installed across the city to facilitate quick and easy payment services for the citizens. Around 2,000 cards have already been issued to citizens.
The Bhubaneswar Smart City was shortlisted for the awards under two categories – ‘Best Digital Payment Innovator’ and ‘Fastest growing Smart City Focusing on Digital Payments’. Upon examination by the evaluation committee, the Bhubaneswar Smart City was awarded the ‘Best Digital Payment Innovator’.
“A presentation was given before the officials of MoHUA. It was based on some questionnaires on best digital payment innovator and fastest growing smart city focusing on digital payments. But, the MoHUA evaluation committee found the city as a digital innovator,” said an official of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL).
