Bharat Bandh to Affect Schools, Colleges, Banks in Odisha

The daily lives of millions of residents of Odisha will be affected due to the two-day nationwide strike being carried out by various trade unions in India. The strike began at 6am across the state opposing anti-trade policies of the NDA government.

As a precaution, the State Government has announced the closure of schools, colleges and universities on 8th January. School and Mass Education Secretary PK Mohapatra said that a decision on whether educational institutions will reopen on 9th January will be taken by late evening.

Work at the government offices, banking and insurance sectors will be hampered due to the bandh. The trade unions have planned on blocking vehicular movement and have urged people to keep off the roads.

More than 10 trade unions are part of the nationwide strike including AITUC, CITU, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC and AICCTU.
