Odisha To Set up Second COVID Hospital in VIMSAR
As COVID-19 infections continue to surge in Odisha in the second wave, the government is revamping the health infrastructure. In VIMSAR Burla, a second COVID hospital is expected to be set up in 10 days.
The decision comes a day after Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra along with Additional Health Secretary PK Mohapatra and other senior officials reviewed the COVID situation in the western districts of Odisha.
The 300-bedded hospital will include 250 general beds and 50 ICU beds and will be ready in 10 days. Besides, 10 more ICU beds will be added to the existing COVID facility in VIMSAR, taking the total ICU beds to 30.
The cases in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda and Balangir districts are rapidly rising. Odisha, on Wednesday, registered a record 2267 new cases.
Meanwhile, the COVID bed strength in the hospitals in Bhubaneswar has also been increased. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has been permitted to operationalise SUM DCH to its full strength. While SUM DCH has 775 beds, Aditya Ashwini DCH has 150 beds.
