Odisha Readying New COVID-19 Testing Centre

To further intensify the fight against the deadly disease, the Odisha government is on the verge of establishing another COVID-19 testing centre as The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar has secured the approval of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

This was confirmed by the official twitter handle of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Odisha. “Director Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) Bhubaneswar has informed Principal Secretary of Health Nikunja Bihari Dhal that they have got the permission of DBT to conduct COVID 19 testing. The testing will commence next week,” the tweet said.

Odisha at present has three testing centres – RMRC Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Earlier, the Government of Odisha had sent a feasibility report of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), and MKCG, Berhampur for setting up of two more COVID-19 testing centres but is still waiting for a confirmation from the central government.

As of 8th April, 2441 samples have been tested in the state. The total number of positive cases so far is 42, of which 2 have been discharged and one deceased.
