No Room For Complacency Says CM Naveen Patnaik as Daily Covid-19 Cases in Odisha Inches Closer to 800
As Odisha inches closer to 800 daily Covid-19 cases, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the people and his administration to ensure there is no laxity while complying with protocols.
“This new wave of Covid virus spread seems to be more infectious and might create a devastating situation if we do not take it seriously. We will go for strict enforcement of Covid norms at institutional and individual levels. I appeal to all the people of Odisha to be alert and follow the norms and please cooperate with the enforcement machinery. There is no place for complacency as valuable lives are at stake,” the Chief Minister said at the review meeting held through video-conferencing yesterday.
With cases rising in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, the CM has asked the Chief Secretary and other senior officials from the health department to visit the border areas and take suitable action based on the ground assessment.
The Health Department has been specifically asked to immediately redeploy doctors, paramedics, lab technicians to Western Odisha districts to strengthen the manpower required to fight the virus.
“There should be sufficient Hospital capacity to take care of the increasing cases. Adequate ambulances with oxygen supply to be deployed in the highly affected areas and proper monitoring systems to be put in place to ensure that any emergency call is addressed timely and with a sense of urgency and sensitivity. There should be no complaints about non-responsiveness of ambulances or lack of beds in the hospitals,” the CM directed.
The State Police force has also been directed to hold a 10-day drive to strictly enforce the Covid-19 safety protocols. Besides, the state Information and Public Relations (I & PR) department has been asked to start new awareness campaigns to sensitize people to wear face masks and follow hygiene and social distancing.
