Cuttack Hospitals to get more Medical Equipment
The Health and Family Welfare Department, in a high profile meeting, has decided to enhance the diagnosis and investigation capacity of SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack by procurement of more medical equipment. Naba Kishore Das, the Health and Family Welfare Minister, chaired the meeting where this decision was taken. The department laid stress on the increment of the potential of four departments – pathology, radiology, microbiology and biochemistry.
Prof CBK Mohanty, the director of the Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET), has said all the departmental heads will decide on the requirement of medical equipment and submit their proposal for procurement of the same.
Due to the shortage of equipment at the hospital, there had been allegations of patients having to wait for a long time for treatment in the MCH. “SCB MCH has all necessary modern and sophisticated medical equipment. But, as the patient inflow is increasing day by day, they have to wait for a long time for diagnosis and investigation,” said Prof Mohanty.
During the meeting, a resolution was passed which stated that the number of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (SVPPGIP) would be increased in a phased manner. So far, the leading government-run paediatric hospital of the state has 23 ICUs and measures are being considered to expand the number to 75.
Earlier, Das had announced that Odisha would launch a free COVID-19 vaccination drive and the first phase of the programme would include health workers as well as the elderly.
