Odisha has reported 571 new infections in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 10,097. With this, the state has recorded the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases.
Of the new infections, 168 are cases of local contact while 403 have been reported from various quarantine centres. Ganjam has yet again reported the highest numbers with 273 cases, followed by Gajapati with 56 and Sundargarh with 51.
Meanwhile, four new deaths have occurred due to the virus, taking the total tally to 38. As of today, the total number of active cases is at 3,557 and cumulative recoveries stand at 6,486.
Notably, Odisha’s COVID positivity rate has surpassed the national average of 6.7%. In July, about 9.4% of people who have taken the test have been declared positive. The increase in community transmission is also a cause for concern.
