Bhubaneswar To Be Fully Vaccinated by August
As per information provided by a senior health official, Bhubaneswar aims to fully vaccinate all adult residents by the end of August. The official stated that 57% of the smart city’s 8.42 lakh adults have received both doses. Of the remaining people, almost 98% have received their first dose of Covaxin.
Notably, Covaxin is being administered only in the Bhubaneswar municipal region. The rest of Odisha is getting doses of Covishield.
PK Mohapatra, the Additional chief secretary of health, said that a minimum of 30,000 doses is being administered each day to incorporate the 3,64,464 beneficiaries expecting their second dose and 18,341 who are waiting for their first.
“We have more than 4.13 lakh doses of Covaxin with us and would be able to vaccinate everyone (in Bhubaneswar) by the end of August,” said Mohapatra. He added that if the officials can administer the first dose of Covaxin to the entire population latest by mid-July, it would ensure that everyone is fully vaccinated by end of August since the gap between the two doses of Covaxin is around 4-6 weeks.
The inoculation drive in Bhubaneswar gathered pace this month as the municipal corporation started several community-based vaccination plans.
According to CoWIN data, at 8%, Chennai has the highest number of fully vaccinated people as compared to other metros.
