Paradip Port Breaks Its Own Record
The Paradip Port, that handled 102.01 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo in the year 2017-18, broke its own record by administrating 109.27 MMT of cargo during the current financial year 2018-19.
Beside that, Paradip port secured another record of managing 10.55 MMT traffic in a single month in March 2019, outdoing the previous record of 10.18 MMT in January 2018.
This unparalleled performance was accomplished in spite of unavailability of two general cargo berths, which have been delivered over to the JSW Paradip Terminal Private Limited for mechanisation.
All the port employees and stakeholders were congratulated by the PPT Chairman Rinkesh Roy for the record-breaking performances. The majority of cargo wielded in the FY 2018-19 was thermal coal, crude oil, coking coal and steam coal, limestone, fertiliser raw materials, steel materials, oil products etc.
Paradip Port is the only Major Port in the State of Odisha on the shore of Bay of Bengal. It was founded by Late Biju Patnaik, the then Chief Minister of Odisha. An autonomous corporation- Paradip Port Trust (PPT), owned by the Government of India, administers the port.
