Over 38,000 candidates in Odisha are set to appear for the JEE (Main) test across seven cities starting today. The exam will be held across 26 centres in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Berhampur, and Sambalpur.
Students will appear the exam in two sittings every day. The first sitting is scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm. Meanwhile, the second sitting will take place from 3 pm to 6 pm. About 3,600 candidates are expected to take the exam on the first day.
Various health and safety measures will be implemented at the centres. Candidates have been asked to report at the centres in staggered time slots. This will help in implementing social distancing norms as per the guidelines. All students will undergo thermal screening before entering the examination hall.
Moreover, physicians will be on standby at the examination centres for emergency health checkups. As per reports, around 16,000 students are slated to appear for the test in Bhubaneswar. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has arranged for masks and sanitisers for the students.
Notably, representatives of the Odisha Mo Parivar team will be present at all exam centres to assist the candidates. The team has also set up a helpdesk which will be operational from 7 am to 6.30 pm on all days.
The Odisha government had earlier promised to provide free transport and accommodation to JEE and NEET candidates. This decision was announced after the centre maintained its stance to conduct the tests on the scheduled dates despite requests of postponement.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed engineering college hostels and ITIs to provide accommodation to the candidates as hotels are yet to open at many places due to the COVID-19 situation.
