Silver City Boat Club on Mahanadi to Boost Tourism in Cuttack
The Odisha government has launched the Silver City Boat Club at Cuttack to tap the tourism potential of the State’s biggest river, Mahanadi. The facility was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through the virtual mode.
At an approximate project cost of Rs 2 crores, this revamped boat club has been built by the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) to promote water-based recreation in the river Mahanadi.
“To tap the state’s tourism potential incorporating water bodies, we are rapidly developing tourism and hospitality infrastructure in identified areas”, said the CM. After the wrath of Cyclone Fani, the boat club was badly damaged. It has now been upgraded to include a floating jetty, booking counter, complex for lifeguards, toilet complex, a restaurant, adequate parking space, and a park with a children’s play area.
Activities currently available at the club include Jet Skis, Speed Boats, Day Cruise, Banana Boat, Inflatable Boat, Water Scooters, Kayaking, Canoeing, Pedal Boats, Scuba Diving, among others.
OTDC will be operating the boat club, allowing operators to use the common infrastructure and facilities on a user fee model. As of now, two operators will begin operations at the boat club and steps are being taken for the involvement of additional parties over the next month.
On the occasion, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab requested the Department of Tourism to include the Maritime Museum in the Tourism Map of Odisha and also explore the potential of other nearby tourist locations.
“This project comes with basic infrastructure to support multiple water sports operators and promote water-based tourism offerings in Cuttack and nearby districts,” said Tourism Minister JP Panigrahi.
