Dutee Chand’s Story To Be Made Into A Film
Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand, who has recently been all over the news for coming out as gay, had earlier stated that several filmmakers from Bollywood have shown interest in making her biopic. In a recent interview, she had said, “I have got requests from so many filmmakers who are keen to make my biopic, but I haven’t given the nod yet. Apart from Anil Kapoor and Rakeysh Mehra, a lot of actors and actresses have independently reached out.”
In a recent development, Chand has finally given filming rights to Kadambini Media founded by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, a social-entrepreneur and Member of Parliament who has been her mentor.
Kadambini media house has produced art movies such as Kahani Nuhe, Krantidhara & Kathantara, which have received much praise in several international festivals. Kadambini’s editor, Iti Samanta, a writer, entrepreneur and social worker, had initiated the idea of crafting Chand’s life into a visual storytelling medium.
Work on the biopic will commence next year and would be directed by Himanshu Khatua, an alumnus of FTII, Pune. While Chand’s biographic novel has been completed, the script and screenplay are still under process.
The protagonist of the film hasn’t been finalised yet though when asked, Chand didn’t shy away from stating her preferences. “I think Priyanka Chopra did a very good job in Mary Kom. While I don’t know who will eventually be selected, I think Kangana Ranaut can portray me perfectly on screen, I like her as an actress,” she said.
