Start-ups In Odisha Encouraged To Think Big

The third day of the MSME International Trade Fair-2019 was all about start-ups as over three hundred entrepreneurs, incubators, mentors and academics witnessed Odisha’s budding start-up ecosystem.

The discussion touched upon a variety of topics such as tips for next-generation start-ups, integration of tinkering labs at schools to encourage innovation from the grassroots levels and more.

The aspiring entrepreneurs received some wise tips from Subroto Bagchi, Chairman Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA). He encouraged the audience about learning ‘how to sell’, and that they should be proud of ‘selling their own brand’. Special emphasis was laid on long term goals and sustainability of one’s brand.

This opportunity was also utilised to grant Rs. 50,000 to 15 start-ups each, who were selected from the last Start-up Odisha yatra, which has proven to be an excellent initiative, drawing numerous entrepreneurs. A total of 356 start-ups, 11 Incubators, 12 nodal agencies & one angel network have already registered with the initiative.

As part of the initiative, 61 financial grants worth Rs 6.8 crore had been provided to start-ups and incubators in an aim to encourage innovation. L.N. Gupta, ACS, MSME, mentioned that the state has built an efficient start-up ecosystem which resulted in the recognition as a Top Performer in Start-up India Rankings 2018 by DIPP.
