Odisha Villages To Get Better Connectivity
In a novel idea to enhance connectivity in Odisha, the state government has decided to connect the inaccessible villages in Odisha’s Swabhiman Anchal, which is under the control of CPI (Maoist) in Malkangiri district, by setting up mobile towers for the first time.
The area, which was earlier known as the cut-off region and was considered by the Left Wing Extremists (LWEs) as their liberated zone has been reclaimed by the government. With the help of paramilitary forces, the administration is connecting the area with road networks.
The decision to place mobile towers was taken at a recently held high-level meeting where the state government has requested telecom companies to expand their connectivity to the district, especially to the Swabhiman Anchal. The areas of Bonda Hill in Chitrokonda and Khairput block will also be connected with mobile technology. The telecom operators will be provided with police escorts for the process of the erection of towers.
“After the inauguration of Gurupriya Bridge, the area has now been connected with the mainland. The people of 151 villages intend to interact with the mainland and are keen to use mobile phones”, said Suresh Mohapatra, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary.
The Badapada and Hantalaguda villages have been pointed out as the center of actions. BSF camps have been set up at the villages for the erection of mobile towers. A 33/11 kV electricity sub-station is being set up with the help of paramilitary forces at Badapada.
