Odisha Plans To Establish Greenfield Textile Park PM MITRA Scheme

A high-level meeting has been organised by the Odisha government in a bid to attract investments to the State’s textile sector. The meeting will be held on October 25, where senior state and central officials will discuss the prospect of bringing investment to the state.

The state government has taken this initiative to partake in the Prime Minister’s Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks (PM MITRA) scheme.

Under the PM MITRA scheme, seven textile parks across the country will be built in five years to attract foreign direct investment. A sum of Rs 4,445 crore has already been approved for the scheme. MITRA aims to integrate the entire textile value chain from spinning, weaving, processing/dyeing, printing to garment manufacturing at one location.

The state would present a formal proposal in a bid to build a mega textiles park after the Centre issues comprehensive guidelines. “Considering Odisha’s huge potential for growth of the textiles industry, the state has listed it as a focus sector,” stated an official.

Notably, Odisha intends to establish two textile parks with standard facilities and infrastructure to support the entire value chain and attract investment. Under the PM-MITRA scheme, the centre will provide support for the development of a common infrastructure of Rs 500 crore for each greenfield park and up to Rs 200 crore for each brownfield park.
